Daly Bay 'So You Think You Can Play?' is back in 2014

07-May-2014

Following on from a successful 2013, the Daly Bay ‘So You Think You Can Play?’ challenge is on again in 2014, and promises to bring even more excitement to local schools.

The community initiative of the Mackay Meteors and Meteorettes, sees Queensland Basketball League (QBL) players visit local schools and take on the students in a fun game of basketball.

The program is proudly supported by Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal Pty Ltd (DBCT P/L) and as Sharon Johnston, Senior Specialist PR & Communication at DBCT P/L explains, it is great to be involved with such a fantastic program.

“DBCT P/L is proud to continue our support of the Daly Bay ‘So You Think You Can Play?’ program into 2014.

“Through our sponsorship program, and our site mascot Hector, DBCT P/L actively encourages children to be more active and healthy.

“Basketball is a great way for kids to get active while having a lot of fun and we hope that through the Daly Bay ‘So You Think You Can Play?’ program more children will take up sports like basketball.

“It also allows for our mascot, Hector the Lump of Coal, to visit the schools and take part in the event. He absolutely loves watching the games and getting out there and meeting more people.”

With more than 5,000 students watching or taking part in 2013, Mackay Basketball General Manager Joel Khalu, is confident of increasing this number in 2014.

“Daly Bay ‘So You Think You Can Play?' challenge games are a fun and dynamic way for us to expose Mackay kids to basketball.

"We give students the chance to face off against their favourite QBL players and with the whole school around the basketball court cheering, it creates a fantastic atmosphere.”

The first Daly Bay ‘So You Think You Can Play?’ challenge is at Eimeo Road State School on Wednesday, 7 May 2014.
