DBCT P/L’s support helps Mackay Sports Expo and Sign-on Day strive for personal best
12-Feb-2016Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal Pty Ltd (DBCT P/L) has once again signed on to be one of the major corporate partners for Mackay’s annual Sports Expo and Sign-on Day.
The MECC will once again host the Expo on Sunday 14 February, which is facilitated by Mackay Regional Council.
DBCT P/L CEO, Steve Rae, said that the Sports Expo and Sign-on Day had been a part of the company’s sponsorship program since 2012.
“We see a lot of benefits to the community with this event. It promotes active and healthy lifestyles by encouraging people to come along and sign up for sports and physical activities available from providers across the region.
“It also benefits many clubs and not-for-profit organisations as they get to promote themselves to the thousands of locals who attend.”
Sports, Recreation and Facilities portfolio councillor Paul Steindl said the support of corporate partners like DBCT P/L was invaluable.
He said the annual Expo and Sign-on Day had become an important event on Mackay’s sporting calendar, with about 8,000 people attending in 2015.
Cr Steindl said with this year’s event being held in the year our Olympians would go to the Rio Games and on Valentine’s Day, the theme was “Olympic Year, Love Sport.”
“We’ll again have around 100 clubs exhibiting and there will be live demonstrations in the Rio Tinto Active Zone,’’ he said.
Rugby league legend Shane Webcke, a Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) ambassador, returns again for his fourth Mackay Sports Expo in five years.
“I do a lot of things in regional Queensland and a lot of them are based around sport, but nothing comes close to this - just the amount of different sports that are represented here and the passion with which people represent those sports,’’ he said.
This year’s Sports Expo and Sign-on Day will be held from 9.00am to 1.00pm, with Zinc radio broadcasting live.
Other corporate partners include Rio Tinto, Sports Power and Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association.
