Community Involvement

DBCT P/L supports a wide range of local and regional community initiatives.

Mackay Street Chaplains

For more than a four years the Mackay Street Chaplains have patrolled the streets of the Mackay city heart to support and assist at risk members of the public.

Working together with the police, ambulance, security and the taxi marshals, the chaplains try to help out those who need help while out or while trying to get home.

The chaplains volunteer their time and set up their base with a tent outside of the Westpac bank. Wearing distinctive purple vests, the volunteers patrol in pairs on Friday nights from 11pm to 3am, providing a calming presence, a listening ear, engaging in acts of service, cups of water (up to 250 cups per night) and first aid.

The financial support from Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal Pty Ltd goes towards training new chaplains and ensuring the service has the supplies they need to patrol.

Anyone interested in volunteering or assisting the Street Chaplains in other ways can contact Reverend Ann on 49573341. www.facebook.com/mackaystreetchaplaincy

All Abilities Mackay is a local charity that aims to provide opportunities for people with disabilities and genetic conditions. Membership to their group is open to individuals and families who have a loved one with a disability. Their families receive support and social opportunities that may not otherwise be available to them.
The focus is on the provision of fun, educational and worthwhile activities that encourage development and social opportunities for people of all ages and of all abilities. Some key goals include:

  • the creation of an activities program,
  • the expansion of a therapy library,
  • working with service providers on alternative therapies
  • working to change community perceptions on the contribution people with a disabilities can make the region and working with training organisations and companies to provide pathways to meaningful  employment opportunities for people with a disability.
  • providing financial and fundraising support for families in need of therapies and equipment.
The financial support from DBCT P/L goes towards ensuring people who have disabilities and their families have opportunities to connect with peers with similar interests and challenges, and that they are exposed to and provided meaningful activities and alternative therapy programs that would not exist in Mackay were it not for their initiative.  Having DBCT P/L’s support gives All Abilities Mackay the opportunity to implement programs until they can obtain a more sustainable funding source, such as Community Grants.

The QCCS Mackay Cutters are the local rugby league team in the Intrust Super Cup and won the premiership in 2013. DBCT P/L has worked in partnership with the Cutters for over four years to provide one free game a year to the Mackay community which occurs annually with the ongoing support.

DBCT P/L is also the official Cutters trainers’ sponsor, ensuring that the team has sideline support personnel and a partner of the Junior Cutter's Academy.
The DBCT P/L sponsorship not only provides the Cutters with game day support, but also helps to ensure that local aspiring local rugby league players have a potential pathway from local competition, through the state competition to the national level.

Young People's Entertainment Season at the MECC

Thanks to the sponsorship of DBCT P/L, the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre (MECC) is delighted to continue to deliver the Young People's Entertainment Season, capturing the attention of children from Mackay and the surround regions.

The Young People’s Entertainment Season is designed to entertain, stimulate and also make education fun!

Each year the MECC has a fantastic line up of Aussie entertainment for young people, and while many of the shows relate to children’s literature and come with teacher’s notes to aid the school syllabus, the shows stand alone as great family entertainment, promising to give you and your family a great day or night out.

These uniquely Australian tales are brought to life on stage and will have young people and their grown-ups eagerly anticipating a trip to the theatre!
