Cape Palmerston Beach Clean Up

In October DBCT P/L partnered with Tangaroa Blue to host a Great Barrier Reef Clean event at Cape Palmerston National Park. Cape Palmerston is enjoyed by many at Daly Bay for its natural beauty, camping and recreational fishing.

After reports of large amounts of rubbish left by campers and marine debris washing up on the beach, Daly Bay to nominated Cape Palmerston as a flagship location for the 2022 Great Barrier Reef Clean.  DBCT P/L provided $5,000 towards the event, as well as in-kind donations of equipment and merchandise.

National Parks and Mackay Regional Council also supported the event by helping dispose of the rubbish. Central Queensland Consultants and Aerial Creative provided photos and footage of the event, whilst Cape Palmerston Holiday Park helped rally support.  The Great Barrier Reef Clean event was a huge success, primarily due to the extraordinary efforts of a small group of volunteers. Twenty-three volunteers over 2 days, managing to remove 840kg of harmful marine debris and rubbish.

The positive impact of the clean was immediately noticeable with this beautiful stretch at Cape Palmerston cleaner for all to enjoy.

With ongoing support, it is hoped that this clean will become an annual event.
