A message from Sarina Rotary & Mackay Rotaract

IT2Zim: A project bringing hope and technology to those who otherwise may go without.
In the past six years since the project IT2Zim’s introduction, a dedicated team of passionate, hard-working Rotarians and Rotaractor’s have successfully sent in excess of 330 computers, laptops and iPads to 10 schools in Zimbabwe. This project has truly changed lives.

Mackay Rotaract club treasurer and IT2Zim committee member, Josie Dahtler, said the club has had the privilege to speak with a number of the school students and staff through Zoom that have received these items.

“Their smiles and genuine gratitude is infectious and heart-warming. There is potential to do so much more and brighten so many more lives.

“We are aiming to make our next shipment within the coming twelve months, all things sailing smoothly.”

Project Manager for the IT2Zim committee, Jef Mtombo, said these projects never happen overnight.

“We have approached many local business, schools and groups in search of donations and have been generously rewarded.

“We recently received a very generous donation of approximately 200 PC’s, screens and iPads from Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT P/L).

“This unexpected contribution is truly life changing, and for that we are incredibly grateful to Dalrymple Bay. These devices will be cleaned and shipped to the students in Zimbabwe, providing them with the opportunity to achieve what so many of us take for granted, allowing them to aspire to greater things,” Mr Mtombo said

DBCT P/L’s JC Arruo, Manager: Information Technology said the company looked for opportunities to donate surplus IT stock to charities and not-for profit organisations.

“We are incredibly pleased that we were able to assist with the IT2Zim project, it brings a smile to my face to know that those kids will now have the opportunity to learn and thrive with their donated devices”.

Mr Mtombo welcomed involvement from throughout the community.

“If this is a project that has spiked your interest or might like to get behind in any way, please feel free to contact us. We would love to hear from you!

“That said, once again a MASSIVE thank-you to Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal, you are changing lives.”
